Information About Argolida Museums
The Museum of Nafplio is situated in an impressive three-story building located at Syntagma Square. It’s rich collection includes exhibits dated from 8000 BC to 500 AD.
It was built during the second Venetian occupation (1686-1715), specifically in 1713 during the rule of Agostino Sagredo. From the Venetians it was used as barracks and naval storage.
At the archaeological museum of Argos you will see findings from the excavations that took place at the city of Argos, the western part of Argolida and the mountain of Argolida. The findings are dated from pre-historic ages until the Roman era.
Among the most important exhibits are a great funerary compass, a bronze armor, a fragment of a crater from 7th century B.C. which shows Polyfimous blindness, a lyre made out of a turtle’s shell, a vase of the painter Ermonakta, the clay female figurine from the Neolithic era etc.
